Meet Summary
Outstanding Performances
Meet: West Genesee vs. Henninger, April 9, 2003
Meet Results
Score: WG-89, Henninger-52
Meet Summary
The Wildcats opened their season with a win against a small and inexperienced Henninger team. Many first places were registered but with early season 'rust' evident as athletes learn their events.
Outstanding Performances
Elizabeth McMahon - 1500m; Lindsey McConnelee - 400IH
Meet: West Genesee vs. Liverpool - April 15, 2003
Meet Results
Score: Liverpool-129, WG-8
Meet Summary
Ouch...the youth of the Wildcats is severely exposed as top sectional team Liverpool totally dominates West Genesee in a windy and warm home meet. Team points were in short supply, with no events won and only two 2nd place efforts by Lindsey McConnelee(400IH) and Elizabeth McMahon(3000m). The 'cats will look for better efforts against an even tougher CNS squad on 4/17.
Outstanding Performances
Elizabeth McMahon - 3000m
Meet: West Genesee vs. Cicero-North Syracuse - April 17, 2003
Meet Results
Score: CNS-100, WG-40
Meet Summary
The Wildcats demonstrated improved efforts against CNS, but the meet outcome was never in doubt as the 'cats were again dominated in most areas by a superior CNS team. Windy, cold conditions negated opportunities for good times and distances, but some excellent duals occurred in several distance events.
Outstanding Performances
Lindsey McConnelee-400IH; Stephanie Bartlett-3000m
Meet: West Genesee vs. Rome Free Academy, April 22, 2003
Meet Results
Score: RFA-88; WG-53
Meet Summaries
Another marginal upstate day of wind, chill and rain characterized this meet. The Wildcats continued to show improving competitiveness in some event areas while being stung in others. The loss of top distance runner Elizabeth McMahon to injury and sweeps by RFA in the weight events and high hurdles squashed any hopes of a close meet for the Wildcats. First place finishes by Stephanie Bartlett(1500/800); Lindsey McConnelee(400IH) and Christina Phelan(3000) as well as victories by the 4x400 and 4x800 relays highlighted the day. Select athletes now prepare for the Liverpool Invitational while the full team enjoys a week of practices prior to the Rome Invitational.
Outstanding Performances
Stephanie Bartlett-1500/800/4x400R; Christina Phelan-3000m; Lindsey McConnelee-400IH/4x400R/HJ/200m
Meet: Liverpool Girls Invitational - April 26, 2003
Meet Summary
With the majority of the team absent due to confirmations or the school prom, a small contingent of Wildcats took to the field on a cool, overcast day. Youth invitational experience seemed the order of the day, and almost all came through with PR performances: E.J. Reedy-3000m; Kristen Bentley-LJ; Nichia Horvath-TJ. Senior captain Christina Phelan clocked a solid 2000m Steeplechase in her first effort at that event. The team now enjoys a full warm-weather training week before next Saturday's RFA Invitational.
Outstanding Performances
E.J. Reedy-3000m; Kristen Bentley-LJ; Nichia Horvath-TJ
Meet: Rome Invitational - May 3, 2003
Meet Summary
A limited number of athletes made the trip to the Rome Girls Invitational. No top-6 finishes were captured by the 'cats, with a 7th place in the 4x400R the highest finish. Other top-10 performances, however, were registered by Erin Hennigan(3000m), Liz Kratz(2000m Steeplechase) and Stephanie Bartlett(1500m). Best performances of the day were those of Erin Hennigan, who lowered her all-time 3000m PR by 17 seconds, and Allison Hulchanski, who upped her TJ PR by an impressive 2 feet.
Outstanding Performances
Erin Hennigan - 3000m; Allison Hulchanski - Triple Jump
Meet: WG vs. Baldwinsville - May 8, 2003
Meet Results
Score: Baldwinsville- 97; WG-43
Meet Summary
Chances for a close, competitive contest failed to materialize as the 'Bees' buzzed by the Wildcats on the strength of strong field and weight event performances and sweeps in the sprints. First place finishes went to Lindsey McConnelee, Teresa Girolamo, Christina Phelan and Danielle Scott. Select 'cats head to Baldwinsville on Saturday for an invitational meet.
Outstanding Performances
Lindsey McConnelee - 400IH; Christina Phelan - 1500/3000 double
Meet: Baldwinsville Invitational- May 10, 2003
Meet Summary
The Wildcats took a small squad to the Baldwinsville meet during this Senior Ball weekend and enjoyed many PR performances in pleasant weather. E.J. Reedy continued a string of impressive 3000 meter races by lowering her PR over 30 seconds. Erin Henninger notched a 2nd place in the Mile run with a significant effort.
Outstanding Performances
E.J. Reedy - 3000m; Erin Hennigan - Mile; Becky Webster - 1500
Meet: WG vs. Oswego - May 12, 2003
Meet Results
Meet Summary
A disappointing dual-meet season ended in the rainstorm of Oswego with a loss. Solid wins in the middle-distance areas were not enough to overcome the depth Oswego displayed in sprints and field events.
Outstanding Performances
Christina Phelan - 1500/3000m; Emilee Lonergon - Shot Put
Meet: OHSL A-1 Championship - May 15, 2003
Meet Results
Score: 6 of 7 Teams
Meet Summary
Once again, track/music concert conflicts diminished the competitiveness of the Wildcats. Faced with a mandatory, graded after-school concert, critical team members were forced to leave early or forego the meet entirely. The Wildcats did their best, with a number of top-6 performances, highlighted by the 2nd place 2000m steeplechase finish of Christina Phelan.
Outstanding Performances
Christina Phelan - 2000m Steeplechase; Lindsey McConnelee - 400IH
Meet: Cicero-North Syracuse Co-ed Invitational - May 17, 2003
Meet Results
WG - 14 of 17 of teams
Meet Summary
Some Wildcats were working on Sectional and State Qualifier standards; others wanted to grab one more PR before ending the season. Team members achieved some of both. The 4x800 relay notched a 4x800 State Qualifier standard with a 2nd place medal finish in that event. Teresa Girolamo went PR in winning the Novice 1500, with Cara Thayer 3rd.
Outstanding Performances
Teresa Girolamo - 1500m; Kristen Bentley - LJ
Meet: Section III Championship - May 21 & 22, 2003
Meet Results
Score: 12 of 16 teams
Meet Summary
In what has become an unwelcomed tradition, a conflicting school music event played havoc with the Wildcats ability to field a championship roster. Missing athletes and athletes forced to compete out of their favored events or leave early cost the girls as many as 4 team places in the final standings.
Scoring for West Genesee was provided by a pair of third place finishes in the 2000m Steeplechase(Christina Phelan) and the pentathlon, where Lindsey McConnelee showed great promise in only her second venture at this event. Other welcomed highlights in this otherwise compromised evening for the Wildcats were PR performances by improving Erin Henningan(8th in 3000m) and 8th graders Cara Thayer(1500m) and Kristen Bentley(Long Jump).
Outstanding Performances
Lindsey McConnelee - Pentathlon; Erin Hennigan - 3000; Kristen Bentley - LJ
