Score: 13 of 18 teams
Meet Summary: Ignoring team scoring to focus on shaking off the rust and prepare for the dual meet start-up next week, the girls saw an interesting reversal of expectations as it was the young 'ens and newcomers that provided the most encouraging efforts. Amy Hannahan and Abby Kastick both ran personal best 1600's in the 4x1600m event where WG placed 5th with an 8th grader, two 9th graders and a sophomore. Freshman Paige Copeland ran her initial 400 intermediate hurdles and took 5th overall without a partner for team scoring. More early-season excitement came in the DMR. Three legs of this event saw the Wildcats lagging in 8th place as new runner Carly Graham took the baton. An impressive neophyte effort saw her overtaking several teams, then battling Corning star Katie Rosettie to the final 100 meters when Carly found an extra gear and pulled away to give WG third place. The team gets back to practice in preparation for their league opener next week against Baldwinsville.

Meet Summary: 'Spring' in the actual sense arrived just in time for the Wildcats dual meet opener of the season. And they took full advantage of the sunny, mild conditions to put forth a full team effort in a satisfying win over league rival Baldwinsville. Even with a host of new team members, these 'cats were well-organized, getting warm-ups in properly, arriving to the line on time and 'being there' for teammates. It was a commendable team showing. West Genesee won 11 of the 17 events. First-place efforts went to Carly Graham(1500m), Abby Kastick(3000m), Rachel Hefti(Pole Vault); Jessica Andrianos(Discus), the 4x800(Colleen Smith/Kristin Waters/Amy Hannahan/Carly Graham), the 4x100(Ali Rachubka/Paige Copeland/Jamy Bliss/Brianna McGraw) and the 4x400(Smith/Waters/Alex Incaudo/Katie Bott). Kelly Maestri was a double-winner in the Long and Triple Jump events while Katie Bott racked up three individual wins(400IH/400m/200m) in addition to her 4x400 anchor.
Outstanding Performances:Katie Bott(400IH/400m/200m)/4x100R/Carly Graham(1500m)/Kelly Powell(400m)

Score: WG - 69, Utica-Proctor - 68
Record: 2 - 0
Meet Summary: The long ride this year to Utica-Proctor thankfully did not include a Thruway back-up, but it did provide another nail-bitter. This time, the outcome remained in doubt to the final relay. It was a meet of must-places for the athletes, with little room for error or 'off days.' The girls responded to the challenge brilliantly. Time after time, they captured the places expected(and some unexpected)in events to put the meet on the shoulders of the concluding 4x100 and 4x400 relays. A loss in either relay would have sent them home disappointed, but flawless hand-off work in the 4x100 powered that squad to victory. Then the 4x400 squared off against Utica-Proctor's best line-up in that event. The 'cats simply would not allow their hosts to take the lead in any leg, fighting off challenge after challenge with 'dig-deep' efforts. When Bri McGraw, who had also anchored the 4x100, powered away from her challenger down the final stretch, the Wildcats had pulled off a big win over a favored foe and remained undefeated on the dual meet season.

Meet Summary: This year's Warrior-Hawk was the exact opposite of the '08' raw-weather edition. Dehydration and sun-burn was the concern this year. With various conflicts, the 'cats took a limited number of athletes and the results were a mixture of excellent and not so exciting performances. On the excellent side, the 4x100 Relay of Katie Bott, Paige Copeland, Jamy Bliss and Bri McGraw saw an impressive improvement over their previous personal record as they ran the fastest Wildcat time in over 4 years and placed 4th. Katie Riley registered an all-time PR in the 800m as did Amber Sweeny in the 400m. The 4x800 relay ran it's fastest time in two years in winning that event with an outstanding anchor leg by Carly Graham. Jessica Andrianos moved to the top spot in discus after finishing 2nd in 2008.

Record: 2 - 1
Meet Summary: It was a rough day for the Wildcats as the collided(unsuccessfully) with the Northstars 3 year+ dual-meet winning streak. Things started out well as the 'cats went 1-3 in the 400IH(Bott-Copeland), then captured the 1500m in a thrilling dual between Rauli of CNS and Carly Graham, with Carly pulling away in the finish straight for a fine 4:48.9 clocking, third best in the section to date. Then Bri McGraw captured the 100m and West Genesee thought it was rolling toward a tight meet and the possible, maybe possible, upset. Not to be. CNS went 1-2-3 in the 100hh, then dominated WG in the field events to take charge. A closer score would have resulted but for a DQ in the 4x100 which was then run unofficially, with WG winning the moral victory. And an injury to the 4x400 anchor cost them that relay. The team regroups for a potentially tougher dual meet match-up against Liverpool on 5/5 while select athletes participate in the 5/1 Coaches Invitational at Chittenango.
Outstanding Performances: Carly Graham(1500/800)/Katie Bott(400IH/400/200)/Amy Hannahan(4x800r)

Meet Summary: High hopes for some masterful relay/individual performances were dashed by poor weather and slow meet management that actually forced the team to scratch a late event to get home before the pumpkin hour. No sooner had the team arrived and begun warming than the first rain storm moved in with thunder which created the first 30 minute delay. When the meet began, Colleen Smith started the 'cats strong by winning the 2000m steeplechase with a disciplined race, her first steeple since the '08' track season. Then another thunder delay. Behind in time, officials seemed oddly lackadaisical about moving the meet faster. The DMR ran well until a side stitch hit 1600 anchor runner Abby Kastick, though the team managed a 5th place. With Kristin Waters subbing in the 4x100, they also placed 5th. Kelly Powell then continued her 'streak' of 1:06's in the 400m as she placed 10th with a 1:06.95. By now, it was past 9:30pm and word spread of approaching heavy rains out of the now-dark western skies. Sure enough, the rains began, and the Fleet Feet Mile was pushed up in the meet order but not before the 800m was run in the wet and wind, with freshman Amy Hanna han putting in a solid late-night effort with a 5th place 2:30.77. With the 4x400 already scratched from the meet, the final Wildcat event was the Fleet Feet Mile, with Carly Graham representing the 'cats in her first-ever mile event. Matched against an elite field that includedF-M national champion cross-country runners Molly Malone and Courtney Chapman, Carly was game and raced to 5th place as she broke an 8 year old WG Mile record with her 5:20.14, an impressive feat considering she is in her first running season and the race occurred after 10:00pm in a gusty rainstorm.
Outstanding Performances: Carly Graham(Mile)

Score: Liverpoool - 95, WG - 46
Record: 2 - 2
Meet Summary: Losses are no fun, but despite being dominated in the field events, the Wildcats held their own in most other areas of the meet and enjoyed several step-up performances in addition to numerous PR efforts. Carly Graham remained unbeated in the 1500m event this season with another victory in that event, a feat which qualifies her for All-League honors. Other events winners were Katie Bott in the 400m(3-1 in the 400m dual meet season) and Jessica Andrianos in the Discus(also 3-1 in discus dual meet season). The 4x800 relay also raced to victory and is now 3-1 in dual meets. Although being nipped at the finish, freshman Paige Copeland provided some big team excitement as she notched an impressive 67.6 time. That broke a school record dating back to 1995 and is one of the top 4 times in the section this season. Another moment of high excitement was provided in the finale 4x400 relay. With the meet win not in doubt for the Liverpool Warriors, they were nevertheless surprised to find the tired quartet of Wildcats Bri McGraw, Paige Copeland, Carly Graham and Katie Bott running with them stride for stride. Anchor Katie Bott received the baton a few meters back of Liverpool closer, Trina Bills, and closed the gap in the backstretch to take a slight lead. They battled neck and neck around the turn, with Bott out-gutting Bills to the finish line. The Wildcat's 4:12.0 was the second-fastest 4x400 in Section III so far this season and was impressive in that all four runners were on their third event of the meet.
Outstanding Performances: Paige Copeland(400IH-School Record); 4x400 Relay; Vanessa Mangovski(Discus); Katie Bott(400m); Kelly Powell(400m)

Score: WG-91, Henninger-48
Record: 3 - 2
Meet Summary: The Wildcats got back on the winning side in dual meets with a closing victory over Henninger before an enthusiastic home crowd on Senior Day. The 'cats captured 12 of the 17 events and swept all places in distance events to earn their 5th straight dual-meet winning season. Individual events winners for WG were Brianna McGraw in the 100m, Colleen Smith in the 1500m, improving freshman Kelly Powell, Katie Bott with a PR in the 400IH and a second victory in the 200m, and Alex Incaudo with a PR in the 800m. Jessica Andrianos put it all together with a league and sectional leading discus toss of 122-1, breaking the old record of 121-5.25 set by Coleen McAvan in 1992. As if the meet needed another superlative, first-season runner Carly Graham stepped on the track for her first-ever 3000m run, and in a field that included no Henninger runners paced herself to a 10:36.9, the third-best outdoor WG 3000m time ever and a top sectional mark. With a number of Wildcats in their final meet for the season, it was a good finale.
Outstanding Performances: Jessica Andrianos(Discus-school record); Carly Graham(3000m); Kaitlyn Richards(HJ); Katie Bott(400IH); Meghan Burns(800m); Amanda Brown(3000m)

Meet Summary: Wrapping up their invitational season, the Wildcats could hardly have asked for a better venue and conditions. Relatively calm evening skies and friendly competition gave many 'JV' athletes on the squad their first taste of invitational competition for their final meet of the season. A number of PR's and satisfying efforts were the result. The team was also able to bring home some ribbons and medals. Despite a shuffle at hurdles #1 and #9, Paige Copeland ran in front of the field to capture the 400IH race in 1:09.48. 8th grader Abby Kastick got her mojo back with a nifty last lap charge to win the Novice 1500 in 5:17.13. And in one of the big non-win performances, Katie Bott loped an incredible 8 seconds off her previous PR as she enjoyed one of those huge step-up performances as she mastered the 800m in 2:21.33 and almost ran down Liverpool's Trina Bills. Select athletes now move on to the CNYCL Championship next week.
Outstanding Performances: Katie Bott(800); Abby Kastick(1500); Kelly Powell(4x800R); Alyssa Zeman(4x800R).

Meet Summary: Chosing to limit athletes to two events in preparation for future championship efforts, the Wildcats nevertheless enjoy some excellent performances. With unseasonably warm weather and an extended meet time, that seemed the right choice for competitors moving on to the Sectional and Open Qualifier meets in the coming week. Paige Copeland opened the meet with a third place finish in the 400 intermediate hurdles. Next, Carly Graham continued a head-shaking first running season by racing uncontested to win the 1500m and claim a league championship. The 4x800 relay of Alex Incaudo, Kristin Waters, Katie Riley and Amy Hannahan chipped in a third place, followed by Brianna McGraw's 5th in the 100 meter final. Katie Bott then powered to 2nd in the 400m followed by 8th grader Abby Kastick's 5th in the 3000m, which capped an excellent season for this future WG star. Colleen Smith got the feet wet in placing 5th in the 2000m steeplechase before Incaudo and Hannahan returned to the track for the 800m. The freshman duo ran faster two lappers than in their 4x800 to take 5th and 6th places. Off the track, Jessica Emanuelli was wrapping up her season with a 6th in the Pole Vault while Jessica Andrianos and Vanessa Mangovski placed 2nd and 5th in the discus. The finale event pitted the WG 4x400 relay of McGraw, Copeland, Graham and Bott against divisional rival Liverpool. The 'cats, with some uncharacteristic poor hand-offs, trailed Liverpool through three laps, with Graham closing the gap to about 10 meters in handing to anchore Katie Bott. Katie scorched the distance, closing on the Liverpool runner past the 200 meter mark, then finding the extra gear down the homestretch to win going away with a 58.3 unofficial split. West Genesee celebrated a 4x400 league championship for the first time in a long time.
Outstanding Performances: 4x400Relay(League Champion); Carly Graham(1500-League Champion); Meghan Burns(1500); Molly Hollenbeck(1500)

Meet Summary: Flat. That about sums up the day for the Wildcats as they suffered a poor sectional finish. Though they knew the points would not be plentiful due to a small contingent of participating athletes, step-up championship performances were not evident for any athletes or relays. Three of them also had to accept that infamous 7th place, just out of scoring. Select athletes now move on to the Open Qualifier hoping to shake off this 'bad day at the office.'
Outstanding Performances: None.

Meet Summary: Five athletes made their bid for a trip to the State Championship, but only one was rewarded. Carly Graham concluded an amazing neophyte season with her second-best 1500m of the season. Her 4:48.57 3rd place finish, however, fell short of the necessary place and mark to advance. She now moves on to Ithaca College to focus on her sporting first love, volleyball, but will likely gain the eye of running coaches there. Katie Bott was unable to mount the second-curve charge that had served her well in previous outings as she placed third in the 400m to conclude her junior campaign with the knowledge that she has added the 800m to her distance repertoire. And the 4x400 Relay entered with hopes of pressing sectional-leading F-M and rivals Liverpool, only to run flat and finish out of the money in 4th. The brightest performance of the day occur away from the track. Down to her next to last throw in the discus, senior Jessica Andrianos lofted one high but long as she landed her second-best throw of the season at 118-8. It meet the second-qualifier standard as she finished 2nd in the competition but now closes her high school throwing days at the State Championship. The Wildcats season rolls on for another week.....
